Educational and Research Objectives

In the Environmental Science and Infrastructure Engineering Course, we aim to clarify the mechanisms of various environmental problems in human society and natural ecosystems and to solve those problems. At the same time, we are trying to establish techniques to create a sustainable and safe society in harmony with the environment in the future. To achieve these objectives, we aim to foster creative researchers, engineers, and highly specialized professionals who can cultivate new academic fields, new technologies, and new industries by deepening the understanding of the natural environment from an international perspective, and by providing advanced cutting-edge research and education that contribute to the creation of a disaster-resistant social infrastructure in harmony with the environment.

In the Environmental Science and Infrastructure Engineering Course, we aim to clarify the mechanisms of diverse environmental problems in various spheres where humans and many living organisms exist and to solve those problems. At the same time, we aim to develop techniques to enhance sustainability while humans coexist with natural ecosystems. To achieve these objectives, we provide advanced cutting-edge research and education that contribute to the creation of new environment and social infrastructure in the following three areas: 1) the environmental science area that consists of three fields of circulating system, measurement control, and ecology; 2) the environmental planning area that consists of two fields of rivers and seacoast; 3) the social infrastructure creation area that consists of three fields of structure/material system, earthquake engineering, and environmental geotechnical engineering. In this course, our teachers corresponding to research sections, together with concurrent teachers at the Saitama Prefectural International Center for Environmental Science and cooperative teachers at the Resilient Society Research Center, aim to foster competent researchers who are capable of comprehensively and systematically elucidating various problems and studying effective solutions from an international perspective using the latest science and technology. This effort will contribute to environmental conservation and social infrastructure development that enhance the sustainability of human society and the environment.
