下記の日程で、第9回HiSEP特別セミナーを開催致します。理学部1～2年生を対象とした、グローバル教育としての理学（化学分野）セミナーです。理学の内容に加えて、韓国での研究活動・生活など、いろいろな面から興味深いお話をしていただく予定です。学部・学科を問わず、関心・興味ある方、英語スキルアップを目指して、ご参加をお待ちしています。

Drawing Inspiration from the Periodic Table and a Scientific Life in Asia

In this interactive talk, I want to introduce you to some concepts and approaches that underlie my current chemical research (University level), and a bit about how I reached these topics as an independent researcher. I also want to convey how living overseas (originally from Western New York (New York State)) has helped me generate a more creative, unique, and interactive edge where science and language sometimes become blended. To convey to you my early pathway may help: I was interested in science for as long as I can remember, but my pursuing it as a career started to take shape slowly after 2 years of college as an English Major (to become a teacher), times which I loved. (I loved science and literature both - and music - in High School.) However, I wanted then to evolve as a technical writer and scientific educator, since I longed for an exacting framework for knowledge as well as a way to apply math, having been away from the physical sciences for that 2 year period of time. Well, one thing lead to another, and in 2004 with an open mind, an understanding family, and an interest in making new molecules, I moved to a position in Korea. My research currently involves fluorescent probes and potential therapies for Neurodegenerative Diseases. Over the years, through important support from mentors (Undergrad., Grad., Postdoc, Asst. Prof.), and colleagues currently, I am continuing a satisfying career in the Department of Chemistry as a Faculty Member of KAIST (Daejeon, South Korea). (Current hobbies include hiking, swimming, ice skating, vegetable juicing, choral singing.)
