Course in Joint Frontier Studies

Purpose in educational research :
We do a creative, basic, state-of-the-art research in science and engineering centering on the teacher who promotes a coordinated teacher of the organization cooperation ahead and the emphasis research.

Through these researches, the postgraduate is educated knowledge and the research competency of the specialty and the allied sector are possessed, and it will be assumed to be a purpose on the educational research to train advanced professional with the researcher and the engineer who can play the center role in the future.

Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics

Research in this area is conducted in collaboration with the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN). It concerns experimental study in nuclear physics using unstable nuclei produced with a heavy ion accelerator, measurements of X rays or γrays to elucidate the process of heavy element generation in space, and theoretical studies on the nucleosynthesis, etc. By introducing RIKEN’s scientists to research on the development of particle detectors, cosmic ray detectors and other astronomical instruments, we hope to educate young researchers, who will play a central role in our country’s efforts in nuclear physics, high energy space physics, non-accelerator physics and related areas.

Saitama University aims to educate young researchers in the field of brain science and help them to experience the cutting edge in this area. In close cooperation with the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research(RIKEN), Saitama University introduces students to research on brain development, the analysis of brain and neural peptide function, and the research done at RIKEN in the field of cognitive brain science, and other fields (http://common.brain.riken.go.jp/ ). This cooperative program offers a special opportunity for students to become acquainted with the cutting edge research and state-of-the-art facilities at RIKEN. Students can also become more familiar with the international aspect of the field, as a number of courses are given in English by non-Japanese lecturers.

Interdisciplinary Electronic Technology

This field of research was established based on a partnership agreement with the National Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (AIST). The course aims to foster researchers who are able to combine investigation into basic principles with cutting edge application research in the areas of plasma control technology, ultra high speed and high sensitive electronic devices and high power electronics devices based on wide gap semiconductors.
