Educational and Research Objectives

One of the main educational and research objectives in Mathematics, Electronics, and Informatics is to develop highly skilled professionals who can play a leading role in the development of international information society and to develop creative researchers at an international level. This objective can be accomplished by creating a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education and research environment through the organic cooperation of three courses of Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Systems, and Information and Computer Sciences to develop science and technology related to mathematical and electronic information.

Discovering new mathematical phenomena is a primary goal for anyone who aspires to learn mathematics. To accomplish this goal, you should read technical books and papers and listen to various stories in lectures and speeches. However, it is essential to experience live mathematics with your mentor in a seminar. In the seminar, you will find your research theme becoming logically clear, and you can enjoy the pleasure of understanding mathematics. We try to carefully choose appropriate themes for students who have taken the Mathematics Course so they can start mathematics research without difficulty. You would feel, “I made a good decision in choosing math,” the moment your effort in two years of the master’s course comes to fruition in your master’s thesis. Every year, we are instructing students in the seminar looking forward to that moment. Gauss, who was the great mathematician of the 19th century, said, “The quickest way to know whether a discipline is a discipline in the truest sense is to see how much of mathematics is used in that discipline.” The discipline you earn in this course would provide you with moral and material support when you are working in various fields in the future.

In the Electrical and Electronic Systems Course, we provide advanced specialized education in the field of electricity/electronics/ information & communications under a curriculum structured with an emphasis on consistency with a basic specialized education in the faculty. This curriculum aims to (1) develop highly skilled engineers who can continuously create technological innovations in the field of electricity/electronics/information & communications. These engineers also should have the ability to lead others and profound insight into human nature. The curriculum aims to (2) develop human resources with specialized knowledge and academic capability in the field of research. These persons should be able to grow to researchers who can continue highly unique research programs by organically combining different technologies in consideration of social nature. In the field of research, we are actively working on a wide range of areas, embracing the field of electronics materials/devices, the field of information & communications and circuit systems, and the field of energy/control systems. In recent years, we are becoming familiar with global warming prevention technology. For this reason, we are developing human resources that can work globally.

In the Information and Computer Sciences Course, we are conducting cutting-edge research on information equipment and software technology, data and knowledge processing technology, biometric information recognition technology, signal processing & information transmission technology, and human interface technology, which will help us to develop professionals in the advanced information-related field. Through small-class lectures and roundtable seminars and experience in presenting research results at domestic and international conferences, we are developing human resources with a high information dissemination ability and who are familiar with a wide range of specialized knowledge from basic to applied information and computer sciences. In this course, we provide a six-year-long integrated education system by organically combining undergraduate education and master’s course to enhance the ability of students to embrace genuine academic capability and cutting-edge knowledge, which allow us to cope with changes in technology trends, innovative originality, and international communication skills. We are also strenuously developing researchers who will explore the way to the next generation by encouraging master students to take a doctoral program.
