埼玉大学研究シーズ集2016-17■ 研究概要■ 産業界へのアピールポイント■ 実用化例・応用事例・活用例We work for a better environmentAquatic Ecology, Limnology, Invasive Plants, Riparian EcologyキーワードI have been monitoring and analyzing ecosystems of several regulated rivers of Japan. More specifically, effects of dam construction, sediment release and other human activities on nutrient recycling and physic-chemical characteristics of substrate and its subsequent effects on plant composition of the respective floodplain. I am also interested in the succession, colonization and competition mechanisms of native and exotic invasive plants. Lately I have been working on the phytoremediation of heavy metals from water by using Charophytes. I am also working on the process of mycorrhizal association with riparian plants in a view to investigate the role of mycorrhiza on the succession of these plants. I have also a target to test the heavy metal removal from wetlands and riparian soil by using symbiotic mechanism of riparian plants of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.●More research is needed for sustainable environmental restoration.●It is always a better idea to develop a system where the ecosystem can be kept functional by its own. ●Use of plants to remove toxic elements from the environment (phytoremediation) need more study. ●Charophytes absorb hazardous metals (arsenic, cesium, etc.) and clean water.●The metals removal efficiency can be improved by contorting calcification of charophytes.●Decomposition process of charophytes in water body is very slow.
