駐日ネパール大使による表敬訪問がありました　Ambassador of Nepal to Japan Visits Saitama University

11月4日(火)に、Madan Kumar Bhattarai駐日ネパール大使が本学キャンパスを訪問、山口学長、中林副学長を表敬訪問されました。今回の訪問は、10月12日(日)に開催された、埼玉大学教育学部主催「現代ネパール理解講座」を大使館が後援して下さったことを契機とし実現したものです。

山口学長からの歓迎あいさつの後、Bhattarai大使より返礼があり、続いて資料に基づき学長より本学の紹介とこれまでのネパールからの留学生受入状況等の説明を行いました。懇談では、1902年にネパールから8人の留学生を初めて日本へ派遣したことが日本とネパールとの交流の始まりで、すでに112年もの長い歴史があることにも触れられつつ、大使より本学のネパール留学生受入れへの謝辞が述べられました。

続いて、本学在籍の留学生9名及び指導担当の教員との懇談が和やかな雰囲気の中で行われ、留学生ひとりひとりからキャンパスライフの印象・感想等が披露され、大使からは日本留学では、研究に専念すると共に日本の文化・社会にも積極的に触れ、充実した留学として欲しいとのアドバイスがありました。埼玉大学は、高度な学術研究において多くのネパール留学生を受け入れている日本有数の大学です。大使訪問を機に今後の交流発展が期待されます。

His Excellency the Ambassador of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai visited Saitama University on Monday, November 4th, 2014, and he paid a courtesy call to Dr. Hiroki Yamaguchi, President of Saitama University and Dr. Seiichiro Nakabayashi, Director-General of International Office. This visit was followed by "Modern Nepal understanding course" held on October 12th which was sponsored by Embassy of Nepal, and hosted by Faculty of Education, Saitama University.

After his welcome greetings, the President Yamaguchi introduced overview of Saitama University to Dr. Bhattarai and explained the acceptance status of international students from Nepal. Since Nepal dispatched to the very first eight students to Japan in 1902, which was the beginning of exchanges between Japan and Nepal, 112 years of the long history of exchanging students has past. The ambassador extended his gratitude to the acceptance of Nepalese students.

Nine Nepalese students, who are currently enrolled at Saitama University, and their professors enjoyed the meeting in a friendly atmosphere with the ambassador, and explained their impression of each campus life. The ambassador advised the students to both focus on their research and touch on Japanese culture and society actively to have a productive study abroad. Saitama University is a Japan's leading university that has accepted many Nepalese students in advanced academic research fields. Followed by this ambassador’s visit, the development of future exchanges between Nepal and Saitama University is expected.
