Watch the death of a star. Break apart atoms. Manipulate the electrons in matter. Create a molecule no one has ever heard of. Get excited over the movements of a mole’s intestines. Use math to detect knots in protein and DNA. Students can study all kinds of fascinating topics in the Faculty of Science. The professors in the Saitama University Faculty of Science are always asking the questions: “Did you find something interesting? What’s interesting about it?” With few exceptions, our professors and our students are not geniuses, so thinking about things takes time and effort. However, spending a long time thinking about something does not necessarily guarantee good results, while a single hint from another person may be just what you need to achieve success.
The natural world all around us is full of diverse colors, beautiful shapes, and movement. Science starts from the desire to label these natural phenomena in human terms. There are no national boundaries in science, and there are no labels in nature indicating whether something is to be studied using physics, chemistry, biology, or math. Individual doctrines have emerged over the course of human history as scholarship has developed. The Saitama University Faculty of Science improves students’ ability to see and understand nature by dividing undergraduate students into five departments focused on math, physics, basic chemistry, molecular biology, and regulatory biology. During this time, when you read various books and listen to lectures, imagine what you want your life to look like 10 years from now. There are many options for your future, including careers as a company employee, government official, teacher, or researcher. If you really want something and you work hard to achieve it, you will be able to reach your dreams. This is a special privilege reserved for the young. At the same time, Saitama University will do everything it can to support you.
If you want to work as a researcher, you should probably continue on to graduate school (two years in a master’s program and three years in a doctoral program). Every day of conducting research is a day of combining your intellectual and physical talents with those of your lab colleagues and exercising your powers of imagination and creativity. Lab life starts in your senior year of undergraduate study. In research labs that attract researchers of different age groups and nationalities, both genuine hope and despair are waiting for you. In the Saitama University Faculty of Science, students can maximize their own abilities by working together with more advanced students and professors on relatively small teams.
The Faculty of Science is waiting for international students who are passionate about studying the natural sciences and have an abundance of intellectual curiosity. Come and develop your ability to understand the structures, principles, and laws of nature and your ability to conduct challenging research in new fields by using both broad-based and specialized knowledge of the natural sciences. The source of a country’s vitality lies in its ability to produce important new technologies and achieve research results. All of your efforts will be a source of social power that will help your country thrive and will improve people’s lives. We are confident that you will become the leaders of the future who, by serving as advanced professionals and researchers, will put your abilities to work in the various fields of the natural sciences.
