In the admissions process for the master’s program of the Graduate School of Cultural Science, applicants are evaluated based on their foreign-language test scores, test results in their specialized subjects, and their senior theses (or other equivalent research paper). Also, their quality of character and commitment are assessed in an interview. The graduate school actively seeks to accept international students. doctoral program

The doctoral program has established as one of its goals the cultivation of researchers in the fields of Japanese language and culture, primarily among international students.
To achieve this goal, the doctoral program hopes to accept the types of international students described below. Individuals who have completed master’s programs at Japanese universities and have since returned to their home countries are encouraged to apply.
・Individuals who hope to become Japanese-language teachers in their home countries
・Individuals who hope to conduct more in-depth specialized research on topics related to Japanese culture
・Individuals who have already identified topics they hope to research and possess the necessary research skills to write a doctoral dissertation after enrollment
To admit these types of students, the graduate school uses the following applicant selection methods:
・The entrance exam does not include a written exam on a specialized field. Admission decisions are based on a comprehensive review of the applicant’s research plan (approximately 4,800 characters in length, Japanese only), research performance (master’s dissertation or equivalent research paper), and interview results.
